A few weekends ago I drove the long drive from Savannah,
Georgia to Gretna, Louisiana which is just on the other side of the Mississippi
river from New Orleans to teach a Clinic at Gretna BMX.I got into town on Friday and didn’t
have to be to the track until Saturday morning so I decided to check out the “Big
Easy!”Well to sum up that part
real quick, the big easy is not for me, too much partying going on for sure.

Amanda Geving was recently named to the USA Cycling Funded Team for the upcoming Madrid SX event. “We are extremely excited that Amanda has made the team! It just shows how much she has stepped up her game this year.” said Brian Fell, Marketing Director for MCS Bicycles. “We know that Amanda has the ability and determination to get the job done. This is just one more reason we worked so hard to get her back on the program.”
Amanda will be joined by Arielle Martin, Ashley Verhagenand Brooke Crain. As the top elite female rider in the power rankings, Martin was an automatic selection to the funded team. Verhagen, Geving, and Crain received coaches’ nominations to the team based on their performance at the first USA Cycling BMX Women’s Development Camp which took place at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., Feb. 22 – March 4.
Madrid is the first stop on the premier world tour for BMX racing. The race will be on March 27th. You should be able to watch the race on www.freecaster.com.
This past weekend Rounds 5 & 6 of the Florida State Series was held at Okeeheelee BMX, in West Palm Beach, Florida. There was a much a lot of buzz circulating about in regard to the new track design. Word had spread all over Florida about the track changes and I believe that nobody walked away disappointed. The new layout is MUCH more “Pro Friendly.” The Okeeheelee crew lead by Mitch Horne and TC Cross did an amazing job in the layout and preparation of the course. The new layout features two pro straights running parallel to the amateur straights. For a good look at the track both normal view and a crazy helmet-cam clip log on too www.flbmx.com. Oh yeah, “Flat Stanley” made a guest appearance in West Palm Beach!
