This past weekend we headed to Oldsmar, Florida for the ABA Gator Nationals. We were all pretty excited to be hitting up this race. Finally, we were able to go, it has been a couple years since we have been able to attend due to scheduling conflicts. Pulling in on Thursday, the track was a buzz with excitement. There were people everywhere! There was a Supercamp going on, trailers being placed into their spots and even a few Elite Men wondering about. This was going to be a good race!
Saturday morning the weather seemed like it might not want to
cooperate, but that soon changed as the sun came out and heated things
up. It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day. The rider count was
also looking pretty good with almost 140 motos (Sunday would see about
the same count).
We had a full squad in attendance minus Cory Watts who is out for a bit
with an injury to his back. Andres Jimenez was looking really good in
Elite Men, sadly he would go out in the semi both days, but with the
talent pool as deep as it is, that’s not such a bad thing. He is coming
around, give him a couple more races and he will be right in there.
Amanda Geving was running strong all weekend. She had been battling a
cold for over a week and wasn’t feeling much like racing, but she
soldiered through it and took advantage of some first turn mahiem to
pull off the win on Saturday. Sunday, she was able to back it up with a
strong ride to take the deuce. She did great this weekend! The backbone
of the MCS Factory Team Raul Gomez showed that he is going to be a
force to reckon with in two sanctions. Raul and Jeremy Thompson had
some great races all weekend long, with Raul taking home wins on both
20” and cruiser both days. Petey Peters was the “Old Man” in the 19-27
Expert this weekend, but he pulled it together enough to make the mains
both days. Petey would score a 3rd and an 8th for the weekend. Bryan
Kipp was back after a long absence with a broken wrist. Kipper is just
starting to get back to the speed he was before he got hurt. He scored
a fifth on Saturday and bettered it with a third on Sunday. Tucker Rice
was holding his own in Oldsmar. Tuck would get two seconds on 20” and a
third and a second on cruiser.
Team Sheet wise, we did really good! We won on Saturday with a 197,
then backed it up with a 186 (I think) on Sunday which was good enough
for second place. The race was race pretty smooth, the track was good
and fast and the team represented great. Overall, it was a really good
weekend. I can’t wait for next year!
