While most people were getting ready to dress up and find some delicious sugary treats on Halloween weekend, BMXers from all over the country descended on Kissimmee, Florida for the ABA’s annual Disney Cup National. This race is pretty cool from the stand point that you race all three days, not just the usual two days. When all three days are over they give the overall winner the Disney Cup Award. Pretty cool huh!
I will admit, we haven’t done much racing in the ABA, but that’s about top change for the coming year. It’s not that we don’t want to, it just hasn’t been in the cards for us. But since how this race is here in Florida and we will be doing some races next year, we figured we would get our feet wet and hit it up! We had most of the team there for the race. Petey was at home because he likes to dress up like sesame street characters and since his friends do too, well, that’s what they did for Halloween, but that’s a whole other story...
While Cory Watts and Bryan Kipp were having trouble finding their way into the finals, it wasn’t for lack of effort. It always seems that stupid things always seem to happen to these guys. I’m sure that will change though, well, it better anyway. LOL! Just kidding guys, I’m just kidding... but seriously (insert head shake here). Bryan did get a 4th on the first day, that shows me he is capable of getting it done. Tucker Rice had a few adjustments to make, but he got into the mains on Saturday and Sunday. He didn’t get to race on Friday because of school. He scored a 6th and a 5th in 12X, and a 6th and a 2nd in Cruiser.
The man of the weekend for our program was Raul Gomez! Raul did really well in Kissimmee. He would score a 1-1-2 on twenty inch and a 2-1-1 on cruiser netting himself 2 Disney Cup overalls! I’ve said it before, Raul has been putting in the time and dedication that it takes to be at the top of his game and it is paying off big time for him. I for one am super stoked (and a bit jealous, LOL!), he deserves all the results that he is getting. Period!
Well, this brings us to the end of our Disney Cup report. The weather was great, a little hot at mid-day, but overall couldn’t be better. The races ran smooth as can be. I think everyone had a great time, I know we did. Hanging out with friends is always a good time. I look forward to doing more ABA nationals in 2010. Hopefully, we will see you there!
